Sporting defeated Benfica (5-4) in the first game of the futsal championship final. The Lions have their fifth win in six derbies this season.
The game was even better for Benfica, with Rocha (2′) putting the Eagles ahead. Esteban Guerrero (3′) still responded to the Lions, but Chishkala (9) and Jacaré (17) led the Reds to an early break. Erick Mendonça (23′) and João Matos (28′) re-established Sporting’s equal footing, Tayebi (28′) gave Benfica the advantage, but Cavinato (39′) forced everything to be decided in extra time.
In overtime, a low, powerful shot from Pani Varela (47 feet) surprised Andre Sousa and gave Sporting the advantage.
The two teams will hold a new meeting this Wednesday (9pm) in Pavilhão da Luz.

This Saturday (9pm), Sporting and Benfica will meet in the first game of the final of the Futsal Championship. It will be the sixth derby of the season, with the Lions winning four of them (three of which meant Nuno Dias’ team won the title) and the Eagles winning one.
Regular-season leaders, Sporting (who are looking for a second consecutive title) left Azemez and Fendang on their way to the final. Benfica, hoping to recapture a trophy they haven’t won since 2019, moved past Leões de Porto Salvo and Eléctrico to make the decision.
