Metaverse, a great leap forward in teaching and learning!

In today’s article, we’ll discuss a topic that has gained prominence on news sites with a headline that piqued curiosity: “Universities bet on metaverse teaching.” But, after all, what would such a teaching be like? Why are universities betting on the metaverse? Will there be members? These and many other questions pop up in our imaginations!

To clear up so many doubts and work directly with corporate education, I chose this thought-provoking topic for our show today.

We’ll bring some real-world situations that will help us reflect on how the metaverse will bridge the giant leaps in learning through technology.

For example, when we have to train medical professionals to deal with a new disease discovered somewhere in the world, they need to learn the treatment options for that disease so they can start treating patients. In this case, we need to send our professionals to this place, and the mobilization costs are high, such as transportation, accommodation, simultaneous interpretation and so on. In addition to cost, we must have a time window until this research cycle begins.

What if we could bring this far-flung university closer to our professionals in the virtual world? Convince them that they were actually teleported through a complex immersive environment? Long live technology!

What other examples can we cite other than health professionals? Many fields, each with its peculiarities.

In engineering or construction, simulation can dramatically reduce costs. Let’s imagine that we can create a building in the Metaverse that will be for sale, and we can provide interested customers with access to the Metaverse so they can learn about buildings that have not yet been built. This means significantly lower costs for construction companies and customers, as well as shortened sales channels.

There are more? Yes he has! Everything that involves learning is relevant to our article today! Imagine any training that requires immersive and face-to-face knowledge to gain skills. All this can be done by the Metaverse! With this new technology, we can reconstruct distant worlds very close to our eyes, immersing us in our own world as if we were alive there. Isn’t it great?

That’s it! We need to be open to all that technology has to offer, allowing us to live and understand places and people that were previously invisible. Through the Metaverse, we will go a long way!

All of these examples I’ve written about go well beyond online courses to introduce us to new technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality in addition to artificial intelligence. The potential of the metaverse is limitless.

All these investments in innovation and new technologies make learning more attractive and reduce dropout rates.

I bring statistics collected by the Brazilian Internship Association (Abres), which show that only 36% of students who enter face-to-face higher education are able to complete it. The reasons for this low percentage are related to financial difficulties and lack of motivation. On the other hand, the number of students participating in distance learning is increasing every year as students invest less and have more flexible schedules.

Countries that invest in the use of educational technology are experiencing significant declines in higher education dropout rates. I can give some examples of the benefits of the use of technology as a result of South Korea, where about 70% of the population aged 25 to 34 has a higher education.

Finally, I enumerate some of the benefits of using metaverses in the teaching process:

  • Accessibility: The Metaverse reduces geographic distances, enabling access to places, people and institutions without travel;
  • Skill Development: The Metaverse allows people to increase their repertoire so they can meet new market demands. These new technologies will require more discipline and autonomy from professionals and allow for more connections;
  • Focus and Motivation: The metaverse brings innovation, so greater attraction creates focus and motivation. New technologies combined with new content approaches, in a fun and engaging environment, make for more engaging courses and higher retention rates.

The Metaverse brings all these bridges that allow us to grow and develop! Education is receiving a lot of investment, so Metaverse enters through the front door and gets more and more space. Therefore, human beings and technology move forward hand in hand, to the unknown ocean!

See you next episode!
