THE BALL – Verstappen wins Azerbaijan Grand Prix, another exit for Leclerc (Formula 1)

Max Verstappen is the winner of this Sunday’s 2022 Formula 1 World Cup Round 8 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It was a double for Red Bull as Sergio Pérez, who won in Monaco last week, finished second. Mercedes’ George Russell on the podium.

After starting from seventh, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) made a recovery race and passed Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) for fourth on lap 44, allowing two Mercedes Saids is behind Red Bull. In the end, Hamilton complained of a lot of back pain due to the “Dolphins” and this year’s downgrade has left the driver close to the ground.

At the city circuit in Baku, Charles Leclerc was forced to retire on lap 20 after his engine failed while leading, so Ferrari was left without a driver in the race as Carlos Sainz was on lap 9 already out. It was Monaco’s second retirement in three races, and he started from pole.

Verstappen thus increased his overall lead, with Perez overtaking Leclerc for second.
