In BBB22’s dynamic, personally led by Boninho, Arthur Aguiar received a special award: Experience in the Metaverse. With companion rights, Arthur invites Paul Andre to share his immersion in a virtual environment.
Using Meta Quest 2 virtual reality goggles, participants entered an elevator and headed to a skyscraper’s penthouse. PA and Arthur then complete physical challenges such as crawling, walking on a building’s windowsill, and even destroying a super robot.
The focus on virtual experiences during the program is an opportunity to show the public a little bit about this universe. Since Mark Zuckerberg started turning Facebook into Meta, the topic has become a phenomenon among companies and has gained space in fields as diverse as fashion, education, marketing, HR, and entertainment.
But for the general public, there are still many doubts. Check out the guide below to better understand the experience of BBB participants in the Metaverse.
After all, what is the metaverse?
Generally, experts define Metaverse as the future of the Internet. A universe parallel to the physical world where users can create an avatar to interact with others (also represented by avatars) in a completely virtual environment.
For virtual worlds to really work, a fusion of technologies is needed: virtual and augmented reality are the main ones. But you also need to consider the access device, which has to evolve from the current VR glasses to a lighter model with more features. Companies are also investigating possibilities such as brain implants — which would eliminate the need for other devices.
In addition to this definition, some people also refer to experiences in spaces not exclusively accessed through VR or AR as the metaverse. For example, virtual worlds like Fortnite games can be accessed via PCs, game consoles and even smartphones.
How to access metaverse?
While there is no single gateway to access the metaverse at this time, experts recommend buying some hardware to immerse yourself in the experience. This can range from a $10 Google Cardboard to an Oculus Quest 2 for around $300.
Access is via platforms that offer virtual reality, augmented reality and extended reality experiences. Decentraland, Axie Infinity, Horizon, Sandbox, Fortnite, and Roblox are currently the most sought after platforms as they offer experiences ranging from gaming to virtual workspaces to live entertainment.
Will we be living in a metaverse in a few years?
Some experts believe that by 2030, tens of thousands of people will be in the virtual world in some form. But for that, there is still a lot to do. The avatar needs improvement, both in appearance and movement possibilities. Virtual reality glasses need to get lighter and more affordable — which could take a decade, according to Mark Zuckerberg.
Right now, experiences like the BBB—for entertainment—are the ones that move the virtual world the most. However, immersive experiences are expected to invade all sectors, from retail to medicine, from sports to the workplace.
