One of the most common criticisms of their Tesla models is that they are computers with cars around.

The problem most manufacturers now face is that they are trying to follow Tesla’s opposite process to put more and more computers in cars. They do a terrible job, and honestly, between buttons, touchscreens, voice commands, and a ton of sensors, legacy automakers mess things up. Sometimes, with just a little modification, it’s possible to sit in any car and immediately understand all of its functions, from the steering wheel to the climate controls.

Tesla is the perfect example of the chaos that, despite being the preeminent representative of a new generation of cars, it becomes risky to change the cabin temperature without stopping, and that’s what manages the clutter of menus on the big screen. Recently, and especially after the last event of Apple programmers, it became clear which way to go. Apple and Google are waging an open war over control of our cars. Thanks to their experience with computers, cell phones and many specialized labs, they can take care of our car screens better than the manufacturers themselves. They don’t add functionality to the car with a phone, they control everything from the speedometer to the seat adjustment, and everything we see on the screen comes from one of those companies.

Most certainly, each brand or group of brands chooses to form a partnership and choose who handles the user’s menu, or the end user will be able to choose the same vehicle with a different version of the menu. This may be the real goal of Google and Apple, while distracting us with prototypes (forgotten in Google’s case) or rumors about an Apple car that already seems to be as a myth as a unicorn.

Another area where many builders are relatively lost, requires knowledgeable people to take advantage of this confusion. DJI’s voice is raised to control this very important market. But Apple and Google are American and DJI is Chinese, I’m not surprised, just like Huawei, the US government would decide it’s dangerous for the hardware, and the machines that will be the brains of self-driving cars are made in China.
